Transpersonal Arts for All

We live in a world where we may look to external sources for meaning and happiness. Yet within each of us, lies the key to feeling stronger, happier and more capable. The answer is as simple as taking a few moments to ourselves, picking up a pen, pencil or paintbrush, or a lump of clay, and seeing what comes through.

Transpersonal Art Therapy enables people to explore their unconscious thinking, enhancing self-expression, through art-making processes and visualisation, to identify and support thoughts that we may sometimes struggle to understand by ourselves.

Through the living relationship, new insights may be revealed.

About me and my therapy practice

I practice as a Relationship-centred Transpersonal Arts Counsellor in and around Aberdeen, and internationally online.

I support young people, adults, and older adults to explore and perceive new meaning, by self-querying life experiences and relationships, through Transpersonal Arts.

In time, intuition may give rise to deeper capacities to perceive truth, beauty and goodness of life, self, and our relationships.

Rooted in the understanding of inner change and outer change as a breathing relationship between Individuals and Socials, I support people to regenerate creative ecosystems, through the awareness of how diverse uses of art-making can transform the self and our society in creative ways.

With personal and social responsibility at the heart of my work, I provide a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment for my clients, from all walks of life.

To date, I have worked with adults in crisis counselling, school teams, staff wellbeing, and groups in Nature-based therapy, school children, multi-cultural organisations and community groups, and people with additional needs.

As a fully registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a member of the Association of Anthroposophic Therapeutic Arts, I adhere to ethical frameworks and guidelines to ensure that you receive a professional service. I am also registered for working with protected vulnerability groups.

The Approach

  • Person-Centred and a combination of free non-directed art-making, as well as directed arts processes.

  • The first few sessions are for Agreements setting and getting to know each other.

  • The middle sessions of the series bring therapeutic interventions to encourage and invite change.

  • The last few sessions of the series bring closure to open arts processes, a gallery view of the work to honour the changes met.

  • Changes during the therapeutic process may ebb and flow, and peak and dip, before settling towards a new balance.

  • Meaning of artwork is context specific and applied by the client, supported and witnessed by the therapist

  • Worth noting, is that Meaning can change over time, as new possibilities and questions arise through the therapy process.

  • You do not need to be an artist to go through an art therapy series.

Practice Description

The Apple Aniseed Arts counselling service is a small private practice.

In the first instance, it would be good for us to meet over a Zoom video call, and you can give me some impressions of what you are experiencing and observing of your self and others that feels challenging.

I can tell you about the arts-based approach, the options around session cycles, and answer any questions you may have for me.

This initial conversation is free, and is for us both to see if we wish to work together.

Some of the ways in which we would approach the Self, is through, poems, simple line drawings, charcoal and soft pastel work, fairytale stories, therapeutic painting with watercolours, and natural clay modelling processes. These work in diverse ways to support whole person health and wellbeing, where you remain in charge of the reflective process.

You do not need any specific art skills to benefit from art therapy, nor do you need to be in a certain age group. Everyone can experience its many benefits no matter your background, age, or current life situation.

The series is offered in cycles of 12, 16, and 24 sessions. You can decide to end the therapy at any time; ideally allowing for three weeks for a hygienic closure of your process..

I will give you adequate notice of any upcoming holidays that I am planning to take.

In the first instance, we could meet online via Zoom / MS Teams or we may meet in-person for a direct consultation, perhaps at your place of work, or at the care home. We would use the 30-40 minute time to discuss what themes and questions you would like to explore.

Sessions can start once I have received the signed Consent Form where you can choose the number of sessions, though this is flexible to your needs.

If we are meeting online, I will email you a list of art materials to gather for your guided arts processes.

The First Session

In your first session we will create a therapeutic agreement together, in words and colours.

It would help me also, to know of your prior experiences of any Therapy or Counselling, and what worked best for your needs, and what did not.

We may discuss what you envisage as being the outcome of coming to the other side of the challenges you are experiencing at this time, or something you would like to make sense of.

You may also want to tell me what you have appreciated or felt uncomfortable with, in previous encounters with therapists or counsellors.

Please feel free to ask questions throughout; so that they resound in the space, rather than be immediately answered.

We will end our first session with an idea of what your therapy goals are, so that we can focus our time together as we go along each week.

Confidentiality is of upmost importance. Your therapy and personal information will be kept securely.

Information about the process will need to be shared with my Supervisor, who regularly reviews my practice. Full names will not be shared.

Confidentiality will be broken if I have concerns that you or anyone else is at risk. If this occurs, it will be discussed in the session and recommendations will be discussed and documented in your notes. I may contact your GP or emergency contact for this purpose.

Thank you for your understanding.
